Understanding your skin type is the first step to effective skincare. There are four main skin types:
Oily: Produces excess sebum, often leading to shine, large pores, and acne.
Dry: Lacks moisture, often feels tight, flaky, and rough.
Combination: A mix of both oily and dry areas, typically oily in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and dry in the cheeks.
Sensitive: Reacts easily to products, often with redness, irritation, or dryness.
2 methods to determine your skin type:
The Bare-Faced Method
Cleanse: Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.
Wait: Let your skin settle for about an hour without applying any products.
Observe: Check for shine, dryness, tightness, or any discomfort.
Oily skin: Appears shiny throughout the day, especially in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin).
Dry skin: Feels tight, flaky, and rough.
Combination skin: Oily in the T-zone and dry in other areas
Sensitive skin: Reacts easily to products with redness, itching, or burning.
The Blotting Paper Method
Cleanse: Wash your face and wait 30 minutes.
Blot: Gently press a blotting paper to different areas of your face.
Check: Examine the blotting paper for oil residue.
Oily skin: Significant oil transfer.
Dry skin: Minimal or no oil transfer.
Combination skin: Oil transfer mainly in the T-zone.
Remember:
Your skin type can change over time due to factors like hormones, weather, and age.
It's possible to have a combination of skin types or skin concerns like acne or sensitivity.
